MOUNT VERNON -

As mass shootings continue to make headlines nationwide, Americans are struggling to cope with the tragedies.

Thursday's shooting in Thousand Oaks, California was the latest deadly shooting, just days after another shooting in a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Mental health professionals across the country are helping Americans get through the deadly acts, even for those many miles away.

Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center psychiatrist Dr. Tunde Asemota says some people may become more anxious because access to stories about the tragedies are hard to turn off due to television and internet coverage.

"What we usually tell our patients in situations like this, we help them grieve, or offer support, we offer counseling," says Asemota.
