Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network Board of Directors Honors Three Outstanding Community Leaders

The 4th Annual Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network Board of Directors Winter Gala was held on Thursday, March 9, at the Glen Island Harbor Club in Glen Island Park, New Rochelle, New York. Honorary Co-Chairs for the event were, Andrew D. Racine, MD, PhD, system senior vice president and chief medical officer of Montefiore Medical Center and executive director of Montefiore Medical Group and Mark P. Weingarten, Esq., partner of DelBello Donnellan Weingarten Wise & Wiederkehr, LLP.

Over 250 guests enjoyed an elegant three-course dinner and dancing as they gathered to pay tribute to three well-deserving honorees.This year’s distinguished awardees were; The Honorable David A. Ford, Sr., chairman of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network Board of Directors received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to public service and most notably the MVNHC Network. Robert DeBenedictis, president of Rob DeBenedictis Management Corporation and director of the Mount Vernon Police Foundation and co-founder of Mount Vernon For You, was the recipient of the Community Service Award for his invaluable service, public-minded and extensive involvement with the business sector and community issues. Lowes Moore, executive director of development for The Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon, received the Leadership Award for his transformative contributions in the lives of youth and in all areas they impact.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Emmy-award winning journalist, Michael Gargiulo, co-anchor of NBC 4 New York’s “Today in New York” on weekday mornings.

“As we pause for reflection during this time of celebration, our minds eye is captured by a remarkable and breath-taking view of the journey from our modest beginnings in trailer facilities to the present state of the art health organization,” said Board Chairman David A. Ford, Sr. “Although the initial dream of “making a difference” has come a long way on the road to reality, we continue to seek opportunities to increase our impact and streamline our operation.”

“Tonight’s event is an opportunity to celebrate our progress over the past 43 years,” said Myrna A. Merchant, board member and chairperson of the Fundraising Committee. “This Gala would not be possible without our generous sponsors. We are so grateful that in spite of the many demands, you stand with us as our partners on whom we can consistently depend.”

“I would like to thank the Board of Directors, the community, and our elected officials for your support and commitment to the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network,” said Opal Dunstan, acting chief executive officer of MVNHC. “You have enabled the Health Center to position us for continued growth to meet the challenges in health care delivery for our patients.”

Nika Milbrun, assistant director of Constituencies for Women’s and African American Affairs, a representative from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office, welcomed guests and honorees on behalf of the Governor.
Funds raised from this year’s Gala will go to support the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network.
