Mental health professionals helping Americans cope following mass shootings

As mass shootings continue to make headlines nationwide, Americans are struggling to cope with the tragedies.

Thursday's shooting in Thousand Oaks, California was the latest deadly shooting, just days after another shooting in a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Mental health professionals across the country are helping Americans get through the deadly acts, even for those many miles away.

Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center psychiatrist Dr. Tunde Asemota says some people may become more anxious because access to stories about the tragedies are hard to turn off due to television and internet coverage.

"What we usually tell our patients in situations like this, we help them grieve, or offer support, we offer counseling," says Asemota.

Board of Directors Celebrates Three Outstanding Westchester Leaders at Annual Winter Gala

The Board of Directors of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network (MVNHC) a leading provider of community healthcare for over forty-four years, held its Annual Winter Gala on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Glen Island Harbour Club, Glen Island Park in New Rochelle, New York.

This year’s honorees were: The Honorable Barbara G. Zambelli, Judge, Westchester County Court, and Acting Justice of the Supreme Court (Retired). Judge Zambelli recipient of the Achievement Award. Mr. Leonard Polonsky, Chief Executive Officer, MedStock received the Community Service Award and Edward Nana Amelemah, MD, FACOG, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network was recognized with the Leadership Award. Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event was Mr. Richard Giacovas, News Reporter for News12 Westchester.

Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network Receives Recognition of Exemplary Service and Commitment to Quality Health Care

Mount Vernon, NY (March 1, 2018) The Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network (MVNHC) is proud to announce it has received a certificate of achievement in recognition of exemplary service and commitment to quality health care from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The 2017 Quality Improvement Award was presented to MVNHC for best overall clinical performance among all health centers, placing in the top 30 percent of the adjusted quartile rankings for Clinical Quality Measures.

"This recognition as a Health Center Quality Leader, from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) reaffirms our value to our patients, families and community," said Opal Dunstan, CEO of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network, Yonkers Community Health Center and Greenburgh Health Center.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary federal agency for improving health care to people who are geographically isolated, economically or medically vulnerable.
